When in 2015 we planned to do a trail race in Peru, our goal was clear, to do the best trail race in Peru and to become a tourist destination for this type of sports. We had to do something unique, and at that time outside of Lima to decentralize the trail races that were done at that time.
We already had that place, it was Cusco! An attractive destination for both, Peruvians and foreigners and the concept would be the chaskis, ancient messengers of the Inka Empire who traveled long distances through the network of Inka roads carrying messages for the Inka.
The route we already had, it would be part of the Lares trek, an alternative trek that more and more tourists do for several days and would end in Ollantaytambo. At that time, the trail races in Peru were very cold in the arrivals. We were looking for that party mood we saw in races in Europe, where a whole town celebrated participants and that town would be Ollantaytambo, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Sacred Valley of the Inkas.
Today, with six editions this year in August, Andes Race has established itself as one of the most beloved trail races in Peru, the connection we have with participants is special and that fills us with great pride.
We hope to see you around soon so that we can enjoy together what Peru and Cusco offers us. Because the Andes Race is just the excuse!
